About Andy
I grew up in Lincoln Nebraska singing in choirs and playing in bands. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance at the University of Nebraska in 2001 under Dr. Scott Andersen. Then I moved to southwest Germany to study with Prof. Abbie Conant and perform in orchestras and ensembles around Europe and Mexico.
In 2006, I moved to the Bay Area to study free improvisation at Mills College and earned a Master of Arts. For two years I was on the road performing with harpist Joanna Newsom. I've been a soloist with orchestras, including Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra, for which I wrote and performed a Family Concert for young listeners.
Currently, I teach private trombone lessons, direct an after-school trombone choir, and perform all over. Some of my favorite shows are telling stories in parks, libraries, and schools. Every third Saturday at Woods Brewery in Oakland I play with the East Bay Brass Band. I'm also a member of the fantastic Tamalpais Brass Quintet.
